Former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma celebrated his 37th birthday by cutting a cake at midnight, accompanied by his wife and teammates before their crucial match against Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday.

In a photo circulating on social media, Rohit, sporting shorts and a broad smile, is depicted cutting the cake. Notably, Rohit holds the distinction of being the first captain in IPL history to secure five titles with Mumbai Indians. However, ahead of IPL 2024, he relinquished the captaincy to Hardik Pandya.

Meanwhile, Rohit is set to lead the Indian team in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. He recently met with BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar in Delhi, with the final 15-member squad slated for announcement before May 1. In IPL 2024, Rohit has amassed 311 runs in nine matches, including a remarkable unbeaten century.

Known affectionately as the ‘Hitman’ by fans worldwide, Rohit, originally from Nagpur, represented Mumbai in domestic cricket. Over his illustrious 15-year career, he has secured accolades such as the 2007 T20 World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. In 2019, he became the first player to score five centuries in an ODI World Cup.

In 2021, Rohit was appointed as the all-format Indian captain, leading India to the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup. Additionally, he guided India to the finals of the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup in 2023, albeit falling short on both occasions.

Despite reaching 37, retirement isn’t on Rohit’s immediate agenda as he plans to continue serving Indian cricket for several more years. Expressing his aspirations on the ‘Breakfast With Champions’ show, he emphasized his desire to secure a World Cup victory, eyeing the WTC final in 2025 with hopes for India’s participation.
