Nushrratt Bharuccha has had a longstanding relationship with Yoga, starting from attending camps organized by her uncle and aunt at home to receiving personal training. However, her commitment to Yoga was sporadic over the years. Last year, though, she deepened her connection with it significantly. On International Day of Yoga, she shares how Yoga played a pivotal role during one of the most challenging times in her life.

In 2023, Bharuccha found herself stuck in Israel during the Israel-Palestine conflict. Upon returning to India, she rekindled her interest in Yoga, prompted by a diagnosis of PTSD following the traumatic experience. Reluctant to take anxiety medication, she sought out an Ayurveda center that offered natural therapies, including two hours of morning Yoga. This holistic approach also included balanced meals designed to align with the body’s chakras and a structured daily routine.

She participated in a 14-day session in October 2023, which she credits with pulling her out of despair. “It helped me regain my sleep, appetite, and functionality without any residual anxiety,” she explains. For Bharuccha, Yoga became instrumental in restoring her mental stability during this critical period.

While Yoga is often praised for its ability to bring peace of mind, Bharuccha emphasizes its role in self-discovery. “Finding inner peace is a stroke of luck. However, achieving a quiet mind alone is a significant achievement,” she reflects. Understanding which Yoga style suits her best, she finds Iyengar Yoga particularly beneficial. This practice not only enhances her physical flexibility and muscle relaxation but also synchronizes breath with movement, offering a holistic approach to body wellness.

Professionally, Bharuccha credits Yoga for helping her navigate the chaotic world of acting. “It helps me filter out distractions, prioritize what’s essential, and maintain calm amidst chaos,” she asserts. Yoga has become more than just a recreational activity for her—it’s now an integral part of her lifestyle, providing balance and resilience in both personal and professional realms.
