In the spirit of eco-conscious celebrations during Ganesh Chaturthi, BIG FM, one of the leading radio networks in the country, recently culminated its initiative ‘BIG Green Ganesha’. The event was graced by popular Indian entertainment personality, Shiv Thakare who inaugurated a repurposed plastic bench in Juhu, Mumbai. Contributing to a sustainable future, the radio network had conducted a plastic collection drive in collaboration with Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA).
As part of the campaign, drop boxes were installed in 20 Residential Welfare Associations, where residents were urged to donate plastic. The plastic was then repurposed into five plastic benches and the final bench was installed in Juhu, Mumbai by Shiv Thakare along with RJ Rani. Shiv’s charismatic presence has truly been admired by the audiences, making him a household name. At the inauguration, he applauded BIG FM’s efforts in creating a greener and sustainable future. He shared his own ways of practicing sustainable living and urged his fans to be more mindful about plastic usage.
Sharing his thoughts, Shiv Thakare said, “Celebrations are important, but it’s equally crucial
to care for the environment we celebrate in. I have always tried to contribute my share in protecting our environment and to be a part of such initiatives. This initiative by BIGFM is commendable, paving the way for a cleaner and greener tomorrow. I believe in the power of
small actions with big impacts and witnessing how a simple idea like turning plastic into benches can create a meaningful change is truly inspiring. I am glad to be a part of this campaign and I urge all my fans to do their bit for the well-being of our planet as I do.”
The campaign was in association with Maharashtra Pradyushan Niyantran Mandal, presented by Bank of Baroda and with Chadha Group as the Realty Partner. In its 16th year, the campaign undertook a range of activities to promote a sustainable celebration of the festival.
