The Netflix anthology film “Lust Stories,” released in 2018, showcased four short films by Karan Johar, Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, and Dibakar Banerjee.

In Karan Johar’s segment, which featured Kriti Sanon, the female lead had a scene depicting an orgasm in front of her husband and in-laws. However, Kriti had to decline the role as her mother was uncomfortable with the nature of the script, particularly its focus on sensual scenes. Kriti shared this incident during her appearance on “Koffee With Karan 7” in 2022, expressing her respect for her mother’s decision despite not always seeking her approval.

Later that year, Kriti and her mother, Geeta Sanon, addressed the issue in an interview with India Today. Geeta Sanon explained her hesitation, stating that she was concerned about Kriti performing such a scene early in her career, especially one involving an orgasm.

Ultimately, Karan Johar cast Kiara Advani in the role, alongside Vicky Kaushal as her husband. Kiara’s portrayal in the film became a pivotal moment in her Bollywood career, garnering critical acclaim and leading to numerous film offers. A year after “Lust Stories,” Kiara starred opposite Shahid Kapoor in the 2019 film “Kabir Singh,” which remains her highest-grossing film to date.

Besides Kiara and Vicky, the 2018 anthology film featured a stellar cast including Manisha Koirala, Jaideep Ahlawat, Sanjay Kapoor, Radhika Apte, Bhumi Pednekar, Akash Thosar, Neil Bhoopalam, and Neha Dhupia. Its sequel, “Lust Stories 2,” was released on Netflix in 2023, featuring shorts directed by R. Balki, Konkona Sen Sharma, Amit Sharma, and Sujoy Ghosh, with performances by Kajol, Tamannaah Bhatia, Mrunal Thakur, Amruta Subhash, Tillotama Shome, and Vijay Varma, among others.
