Imran Khan is poised for a grand return to Bollywood after nearly nine years, marking a special collaboration with his maternal uncle, Aamir Khan, who played a significant role in launching his career.

Reportedly, Khan has signed up for a quirky comedy titled “Happy Patel,” directed by Vir Das.

The film, according to sources cited in Peeping Moon, will be produced by Aamir Khan Productions, completing a full-circle moment for Khan. Aamir first introduced Imran to the silver screen in 1988’s “Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak” as a child artist. Two decades later, Aamir Khan Productions launched Imran as a leading man in the successful rom-com “Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na” in 2008.

Details about “Happy Patel” are scarce, but it’s described as a laugh riot set in a unique yet familiar world, echoing the tone of Imran’s earlier successful comedies. The film has already commenced shooting in Goa.

Directorial debutant Vir Das, known for his acting alongside Khan in the 2011 black comedy “Delhi Belly,” brings an exciting layer to the project. While Das has directed a yet-to-be-released web series, “Happy Patel” will mark his first feature film.

Joining the cast is Mona Singh, recognized for her work with Aamir Khan in “3 Idiots” and “Laal Singh Chaddha,” playing a pivotal character. The female lead’s identity remains undisclosed, with rumors circulating about a potential cameo by Aamir Khan himself, though unconfirmed.

“Happy Patel” replaces Khan’s earlier planned web series with Abbas Tyrewala, an espionage thriller for Disney+ Hotstar. However, due to the merger between Reliance Industries and The Walt Disney Company, the project was shelved.
