Virgin River isn’t actually a town in California. According to Wikipedia, The Virgin River is a tributary of the Colorado River in the U.S. states of Utah, Nevada, and Arizona. The river is about 162 miles (261 km) long.[2] It was designated Utah’s first wild and scenic river in 2009, during the centennial celebration of Zion National Park.
Tim Matheson who plays Dr Vernon Mullins, once played a college frat boy, Eric Stratton, in National Lampoon’s Animal House (1978), who was an antagonist to Dr. Dean Vernon Wormer, played by the late John Vernon. The funny coincidence of Matheson’s character’s first name being Vernon, was more than likely not a coincidence, but a nod to the great 70’s raunchy college flick.
