Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have officially filed for divorce following months of speculation about their separation.
Court records obtained by TMZ show that Lopez filed for divorce on Tuesday, August 20, the same day as their second wedding anniversary, and did so without legal representation.
Lopez, who has been seen wearing her wedding band recently, listed April 26, 2024, as their date of separation.
This will be Ben Affleck’s second divorce and Jennifer Lopez’s fourth.
**No Prenuptial Agreement**
Reports from the Daily Mail indicate that the couple did not sign a prenuptial agreement before their marriage in July 2022. Without such an agreement, their separate earnings from the past two years, including income from major deals and film projects, would be considered part of their communal assets.
The court documents also reveal that Lopez has requested the judge to deny spousal support to Affleck, although she is not seeking it herself.
**Reason for the Divorce**
Jennifer Lopez’s decision to file for divorce is linked to ongoing financial disagreements, according to TMZ.
Sources say that the couple has been engaged in intense settlement talks for several months and have occasionally ceased communication. They listed their $68 million Beverly Hills home for sale in May, a year after purchasing it for $60 million. They then put the property on the market in June after initially trying to sell it privately.
In July, Ben Affleck completed the purchase of a $20.5 million bachelor pad in the Pacific Palisades, shortly after Lopez’s 55th birthday. Meanwhile, Lopez is still searching for a new home in Los Angeles.
The couple has not been seen together in public since June 2. This week, Lopez was observed leaving Affleck’s $100,000-a-month rental house in Brentwood, where she had been celebrating his 52nd birthday with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner and their children.
Affleck did not attend Lopez’s lavish 55th birthday party in The Hamptons in late July, which had a Bridgerton theme.
Lopez and Affleck originally met on the set of their movie *Gigli* in December 2001.
