Actress Deepika Padukone, who became a mother to baby girl Dua last year, is still adjusting to her new life as a parent. In a recent interview, she shared how motherhood has shifted her priorities and outlook on work.

While discussing her return to the spotlight, Deepika revealed a startling moment when a film director mocked her for taking her role as a mother “too seriously.” Recalling the incident in a conversation with Marie Claire, she said, “He turned around and said, ‘Oh, looks like she’s taking motherhood very seriously.’” Deepika added, “I couldn’t tell if that was meant as praise or sarcasm. What does that even mean—taking motherhood seriously? Of course, I am!”

She also reflected on how her professional life might evolve post-motherhood. “I don’t know if my work will look the same as it did before I had a baby. And honestly, I’m not sure I want it to. Maybe this is my new rhythm now,” she shared.

Deepika on Mom Guilt and Rediscovering Herself

Deepika candidly spoke about the internal struggle of balancing her personal and professional identity. “I constantly have to remind myself that life doesn’t end after having a child. It’s important to reclaim parts of who I was before. But every time I’m not with my daughter, I do feel that guilt.”

She added, “I wouldn’t say I feel completely lost, but I also haven’t fully found my new self yet. I’m still figuring it all out.”

Currently on maternity leave, the Pathaan actress is preparing to return to work with the sequel of Kalki 2898 AD, along with several other exciting projects in the pipeline.
